As its name suggests, the town of Holly Springs grew up around fresh water springs in southern Wake County. Until the 1980’s this was a small town of just 500 residents located south of Cary, but developers saw its huge potential when they created the community of Sunset Ridge. Featuring the 18-hole Devils Ridge golf course, this master-planned community offers upscale homes, many with golf course frontage, at very affordable prices and minutes from Cary.
With Sunset Ridge leading the way, Holly Springs became one of hot spots of the Triangle real estate market, offering a huge range of newer houses, townhomes and condos. Commercial development followed, bringing new restaurants and shopping options to the over 24,000 people who now call Holly Springs home.
Residents enjoy seasonal activities like the annual Easter Egg Hunt, Holly Fest and the Happy Holly Days Parade. The town also features a rich Civil War history, as seen in the Leslie-Alford-Mims House, a beautiful 38-room mansion built in 1837 that once housed Union soldiers. Holly Springs opened a wonderful library and cultural arts center downtown in 2006, adjacent to the new City Hall.
The town’s balance of commercial and residential development, its reasonable land prices, coupled with its proximity to Raleigh, Cary and RTP and its small-town charm continue to be very attractive to new homeowners and businesses.
