Visit the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences

Located in downtown Raleigh at 11 W Jones Street, the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences is definitely one of the coolest museums in the Triangle. Established in 1879, it is the oldest established museum in North Carolina. Oh, and don’t worry about finding it because there is a massive 3-story globe that has been built into its side. Free to the general public, the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences is sure to be a good time for kids and adults alike. After all, it was the most popular historic museum in North Carolina in 2012.

This huge museum is four stories high with a plethora of displays revealing ancient artifacts, ecosystems, and massive dinosaur skeletons just to name a few. The general layout and displays of the museum is as follows:

First Floor:
• North Carolina’s Natural Treasures
• Coastal North Carolina
• HD films in the massive Daily Planet theater (the inside of the globe)

Second Floor:
• Mountains to the Sea
• Nature’ Explorers
• The Discovery Room

Third Floor:
• Prehistoric North Carolina
• Tropical Connections
• Windows on the World (live demonstrations)
• Museum Birthday Parties held on weekends

Fourth Floor:
• Arthropod Zoo
• Living Conservatory
• Naturalist Center
• Acro Café

This museum is one that you will not want to miss, especially with a fun list of events coming up this summer. These include an interactive Lemur display, science with ice cream, an exciting fusion of science and art with Dinosaurs in Motion and much more!
