Recipe: Thanksgiving Cranberry Relish

From Our Home to Yours–Thanksgiving Cranberry Relish
1 1/2 cups dried cherries (available at Trader Joe’s or Williams Sonoma)
1 cup fresh cranberries
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup chopped crystallized ginger
1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
1 tablespoon of grated lemon zest
In a heavy, medium non-reactive saucepan, combine all the above ingredients with 6 tablespoons of water and bring to a boil over moderately high head.  Reduce the heat to moderate and cook ,stirring occasionally until the cranberries pop, about 8 minutes.   Transfer to a small serving bowl and cool.  Cover and refrigerate for up to 3 days.  Serve at room temperature.   (This is also great on a cold leftover turkey sandwich!)
With thanks for family and friends, Happy Thanksgiving!
